Eddie Redmayne is planning a visit to see Stephen Hawking as soon as he returns to Britain so he can show Hawking his Oscar.
Redmayne won Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role at the Academy Awards last night for playing Hawking in The Theory of Everything.
Speaking after his big win, Redmayne revealed he is now planning a trip to Cambridge, England to visit Hawking and his ex-wife Jane, who was played by Felicity Jones in the movie.
Redmayne told reporters backstage at the Oscars ceremony, “They’ve (Stephen and Jane Hawking) been so kind to us throughout the process. I’m one of those people who, when they see a film, I believe what I see on the screen. So there was a great responsibility to tell their story truthfully and authentically… Any excuse to go back to Cambridge, it’s such a beautiful place.”
The actor adds of his enthusiastic acceptance speech, “(I was) trying to deal with a frenzy of nerves and white noise. Then of course you forget everything. It was euphoria, certainly something I won’t forget in a hurry.”
Jones, who lost out on the Best Actress award to Julianne Moore, tells Britain’s Sky News, “It’s been incredible. I’ve just tried to enjoy it… I’ve been nervous for five hours… (Redmayne’s wife) Hannah and I were holding hands (as they called out the Best Actor winner)… It was just such a relief and such a well deserved win.”
However, the actress is not upset after failing to replicate her co-star’s success, adding, “(There were) amazing performances from all those actresses… I really admire Julianne Moore.”
