‘American Sniper’ Star Leonard Roberts Joins ‘American Crime Story: The People V. O.J. Simpson’

American Sniper actor Leonard Thomas has joined the cast of Ryan Murphy’s new FX crime drama American Crime Story: The People V. O.J. Simpson.

Thanks to The Hollywood Reporter, we know that Roberts has signed on to play Dennis Schatzman, “the journalist who jumped on the O.J. Simpson soapbox to cry out about the LAPD’s war against African-Americans.”

The miniseries, based on the book The Run of His Life: The People v. O.J. Simpson by Jeffrey Toobin, takes a look at the O.J. Simpson trial told from the perspective of the lawyers. The show will explore the chaotic behind-the-scenes dealings and maneuvering on both sides of the court, and how a combination of prosecution overconfidence, defense shrewdness, and the LAPD’s history with the city’s African-American community gave a jury what it needed: reasonable doubt.

Also starring in the series are Oscar winner Cuba Gooding, Jr. as Simpson, AHS star Sarah Paulson as prosecutor Marcia Clark, Courtney B. Vance as Simpson’s lawyer Johnnie Cochran, John Travolta as Robert Shapiro, and former Friends star David Schwimmer, who will take on the roll of Simpson’s late friend and attorney, Robert Kardashian, Kenneth Choi as Judge Lance Ito, Bruce Greenwood as Gil Garcetti and Sterling K. Brown as Christopher Darden.
