We all have favorite books we hope will get turned into movies or TV shows but are not always happy with how they turn out. Sometimes they really get it and sometimes they miss the mark. Please shout out about your top ones on either side!
1. No Country for Old Men by Cormac McCarthy (gets it right) – If you have not read it, this is such a good book. The Coen Brothers did an amazing job that when I read it again I picture the people from the movie. I can just imagine one Coen Brother reading the book aloud while the other types it into screenplay format. It’s pretty much that dead-on accurate.
2. Ready Player One by Ernest Cline (gets it wrong) – I had high hopes with this one and Spielberg directing to boot but was hugely disappointed. They took out so many of the “Easter Egg” moments and added new stuff that didn’t fit it drove me crazy. The race at the beginning set the tone and I literally had to force myself to finish it because it was so way off in so many areas.
3. Game of Thrones by George RR Martin (started right and then fell apart) – I realize this is very controversial. Based on the “A Song of Ice and Fire” series by Martin this series started off strong and the first 4-5 seasons were great and largely came from the source material for storylines. After that, they kind of made it up on their own (with a little guidance from Martin) and to somebody that has read all of the books, it really fell apart. Story lines were abandoned (even things brought up earlier in the show!), characters were discarded, and the ending wasn’t built up enough to feel natural. Plus, all of the stuff that got cut could have made another 3-4 seasons instead of rushing to wrap up so quickly. I started off a fan and ended very disappointed.

Many of you are aware that WB and HBO Max struck a deal to air their 2021 new releases on that platform in addition to theatrical releases. This is why Wonder Woman 84 was seen there at Christmas. I just wondered what everybody thought about this arrangement. I personally love it and think it reflects the consumers of this era. Not just COVID, but the streaming-minded average consumer. Also, for a family of 4-5 it is a much more affordable option compared to buying 4-5 tickets to a show (plus food and drinks). I tend to hope it is a permanent type of deal.
On the other hand, I do know a lot of people crave that movie theater experience and that’s a key part for them. Many in the theater industries would lose their jobs. And lots of artists hate it. Christopher Nolan walked away from WB because of it.
I was just curious what everybody thought about it.

Assuming they all don’t get bumped yet another time

I tend to agree. DC is dominating in the television market. They should really lean into that

Lately, I have been listening to rap/hip-hop from the late 90’s and early 2000’s. Ludacris, Nelly, Busta, etc. I don’t like a lot of current stuff in that genre but it was just a lot more fun back then.

I’m not going to be able to do it. Just not enough time for me to be able to fit it in. What specific panels are you looking to get into?

Oh, and “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” (on Hulu)
I never got into “Angel.” I tried and even did it where you watch back and forth but just lost interest. This time just going straight through Buffy.

I think I got into Season 3 or so. Honestly, I know this is something upsetting to a lot of people but I never cared much for the character of Angel. I found him extremely mopey, sad, and boring. Now, when he became Angelus that was something else entirely and I quite enjoyed it. I’m more onboard with team Spike, haha
