Ghosts Renewed for Season 3

CBS gave Ghosts an early renewal, confirming that it will be having a third season. The renewal was announced in January ahead of the show’s Season 2 premiere.

“This season, executive producers Joe Port, Joe Wiseman, and the brilliant cast delivered episodes that far surpassed our expectations. From the opening of the Woodstone B&B to epic Halloween and Christmas episodes, we have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know our ‘Ghosts’ even better. Much like our viewers, we love them more each and every week. As the series continues to win fans on broadcast and streaming, we’re thrilled to bring back this touching and hilarious comedy for a third season,” said CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach.

Ghosts is the US adaptation of the British sitcom of the same name.

The story follows a couple, Samantha and Jay Arondekar, who move into a sprawling mansion thanks to an inheritance. But their new home also comes with the ghosts that haunt them. Samantha is a freelance writer who, after a near-death experience, acquired the ability to see ghosts. Her husband, Jay, is an unemployed chef who supports his wife as much as he can.

The Arondekars soon learn to live with the ghosts that haunt the grounds of the residence.

It premiered in 2021 and was a surprise hit for CBS, with its second season airing this year. Since the renewal, not much else has been revealed about Ghosts Season 3. Filming for the new season hasn’t begun either because of the strikes. So it might take a while before we see new footage from the upcoming season.

Ghosts Cast

Given what happened in the Season 2 finale, one of the actors is surely leaving Ghosts. Fortunately, we can expect Rose McIver and Utkarsh Ambudkar to return for Ghosts Season 3 as Samantha and Jay Arondekar.

We can also expect most of the ghosts in Woodstone to return. This includes Asher Grodman as Trevor Lefkowitz, Richie Moriarty as Pete Martino, Sheila Carrasco as Susan Montero, Danielle Pinnock as Alberta Haynes, Brandon Scott Jones as Captain Isaac Higgintoot, Rebecca Wisocky as Hetty Woodstone, Roman Zaragoza as Sasappis, and Devan Chandler Long as Thorfinn.

The humans that may also return for Ghosts Season 3 include Punam Patel as Bela and Rodrigo Fernandez-Stoll as Todd Pearlman.

Much like in Season 2, Ghosts Season 3 will surely feature a number of guest actors as well.

Joe Port and Joe Wiseman developed the show for CBS. Port, Wiseman, and the British show’s original creators Mathew Baynton, Simon Farnaby, Martha Howe-Douglas, Jim Howick, Laurence Rickard, and Ben Willbond, serve as executive producers.

Also serving as executive producers of the US remake are Alison Carpenter, Debra Hayward, Alison Owen, and Angie Stephenson. Jeff Cardoni is coming back to compose the music for the show.

What Happened So Far in Season 2

In Ghosts Season 2, the ghosts are faced with a challenge when they decide to find the person who killed Alberta over 100 years ago. To their shock, they find out that it was Hetty’s son who killed Alberta to be with her boyfriend. To make things worse, Hetty revealed that she knew the truth all along, and her relationship with Alberta sours. Hetty and Alberta reconcile after a heated conversation.

However, the Arondekars are facing another problem. A new heir, who was previously unknown to the couple, suddenly arrives and claims that the property belongs to her. She backs up her claim with a piece of false DNA evidence provided by the shady lawyer Dan, who represents the Woodstone family estate. Fortunately, Sam and Jay manage to retain control of the house from Dan after they figure out who the self-proclaimed heir really is.

By the season finale, Sam and Jay see a light from their home up to the sky. This meant that one of the ghosts in the residence had now crossed over to the other side, possibly reconciling with their guilt and being able to move on. The finale ends before it is revealed who it was among the ghosts that haunted the residence.

All the ghosts have managed to make progress in their afterlives, such as Hetty, Alberta, and Isaac. Alberta finally found out who killed her, so could she be the one to have moved one? Would Pete have crossed over after he got the chance to walk his daughter down the aisle on her wedding day? Is it Flower, who decided to commit?

It could be any of the ghosts that crossed over into the next life.

What to Expect for Season 3

Ghosts Season 3 is expected to pick up on the cliffhanger ending of Season 2. One of the ghosts in Woodstone has now crossed over to the other side, so the third season will definitely reveal who it will be.

Similar to the original British series, Ghosts Season 3 may also further explore the Arondekars’ understanding of the supernatural, while also showing the relationships between them and the spirits. One thing is certain, is that Sam and Jay have come to accept living with ghosts. It’s likely that a more mature dynamic will be introduced between the ghosts and the living. This will also bring more stories to tell as the show goes on.

Depending on who it is that crossed over, both the humans and the ghosts will have to deal with a missing member of their found “family” in the Woodstone home.

Ghosts Season 3 Release Date News & Speculation

So far, there’s no official release date yet for Ghosts Season 3. The show’s renewal also comes amidst the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike. The WGA strike has been resolved, so the show’s writers are likely working on the episodes at the very least.

Ghosts Season 3 was originally included in the network’s Fall 2023 lineup, but the strikes have pushed the show’s release date further. So at this point, it’s likely that Ghosts Season 3 will be pushed until fall 2024 at the earliest. For now, fans can rewatch the first two seasons of Ghosts on Paramount+.

Fans can also check out the original British series, whose first three seasons are available for purchase on Apple TV, Amazon, and Google. The original Ghosts series will also be airing on CBS starting in November.
