Gen V Season 2 Is In Active Development

Gen V was renewed for a second season a few weeks after the show premiered. Since its debut on Prime Video, Gen V has become one of the streaming platform’s most-watched shows.

“Expanding the universe of ‘The Boys’ with a series as bold as ‘Gen V’ has been an incredible journey for us and our wonderful partners at Sony,” said Amazon MGM Studios head of television Vernon Sanders.

“From our first conversation with showrunners Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters, along with Eric Kripke, Evan Goldberg, and Seth Rogen, we knew ‘Gen V’ would push the boundaries. Their unapologetic approach is exactly what audiences love. And it has helped ‘Gen V’ become the No. 1 series on Prime Video in over 130 countries. ‘Gen V’ is Prime Video’s most acquisitive new Original series of 2023. And we’re excited that our incredible cast and crew are going to continue telling brave and bold stories from ‘Gen V’ to our customers,” said Sanders.

“We couldn’t be happier to make a second season of ‘Gen V’,” said Fazekas and Kripke, who is the executive producer of the spinoff. “These are characters and stories we’ve grown to love, and we are thrilled to know people feel the same! The writers are already working on the new season. Sophomore year is gonna be wild, with all the twists, heart, satire, and exploding genitalia you’ve come to expect from the show.”

James Weaver, Neal Moritz, Ori Marmur, Pavun Shetty, Ken Levin, Jason Netter, Garth Ennis, Darick Robertson, Craig Rosenberg, Nelson Cragg, Zak Schwartz, Erica Rosbe, and Michaela Starr are also executive producing Gen V. Brant Englestein, Sarah Carbiener, Lisa Kussner, Gabriel Garcia, Aisha Porter-Christie, Judalina Neira, and Loreli Alanis serve as producers.

The Gen V Cast

Most of the cast are expected to return for Gen V Season 2. Even those who portrayed characters who died may still be part of the coming season through flashbacks. Because the show is set in the same universe as The Boys, there’s also a possibility that a dead character could return… Perhaps through a shady experiment by Vought International.

Those we can expect to see back for Season 2 include Jaz Sinclair as Marie Moreau, Chance Perdomo as Andre Anderson, Lizzie Broadway as Emma Meyer, Maddie Phillips as Cate Dunlap, London Thor and Derek Luh as Jordan Li, and Asa Germann as Sam. The same could be said for Sean Patrick Thomas as Polarity, who is expected to return for Season 2.

As we said, Patrick Schwarzenegger as Golden Boy, Shelley Conn, and Clancy Brown could also return in Gen V Season 2 through flashbacks. Other deceased characters like Indira Shetty, and Edison Cardosa may also reappear for Season 2. Their appearances may be in sequences that could give more details about the events at God U that happened before Season 1 began.

Schwarzenegger, who plays Golden Boy, was killed off in the pilot episode. However, Golden Boy appeared as a manifestation of Cate’s memories and as a conscience for his brother Sam.

Fans can also look forward to cameos from characters from The Boys. This includes Claudia Doumit as Victoria Neuman and Anthony Starr as Homelander among others. Who else may cameo from The Boys will be more exciting once Season 4 premieres.

What Happened in Season 1?

Season 1 of Gen V ended with a divided group. Jordan, Marie, Andre, and Emma find themselves prisoners at Vought. They’re being blamed for the events caused by Sam and Cate. Homelander also arrived just when Marie blew up Cate’s arm and stopped the rogue Supes she ended up turning loose.

He also looked like he was about to kill Marie with his laser vision when the scene cut to black. Afterward, Homelander is seen on TV. He’s proclaiming that Sam and Cate are the new “Guardians of God U” who stopped Marie, Jordan, Emma, and Andre. It does seem like Homelander is involved with what happened afterward that brought Marie to the Vought facility.

The official series description of Gen V reads:

“You know what happens when supes go bad, but not all superheroes start out corrupt. Beyond the typical college chaos of finding oneself and partying, these kids are facing explosive situations…literally. As the students vie for popularity and good grades, it’s clear that the stakes are much higher when superpowers are involved. When the group of young supes discover that something bigger and sinister is going on at school, they’re put to the test: Will they be the heroes or the villains of their stories?”

What to Expect with Season 2

When it comes to what we can expect for Gen V Season 2, anything can happen. But based on how Season 1 ended, it’s certain that we won’t be returning to Godolkin University. That also means the story will have to evolve, something that fans should be excited about. What we also know is that the main group of supes are divided. It’s Sam and Cate on one side, with Jordan, Marie, Andre, and Emma on the other.

Knowing where the latter ended up, Gen V Season 2 will explore how they have to deal with each other.

Jordan, Marie, Andre, and Emma don’t seem to be in danger, which probably means Vought has plans for them. It would also explore how Marie managed to survive Homelander’s laser vision and how they ended up with Vought.

Gen V Season 2 Release Date News

While Gen V Season 2 is confirmed, the coming season has no release date yet. Given that the SAG-AFTRA strike just concluded, and the series is already in active development, filming will likely start up soon. Production on Season 2 will take place under the working title “Varsity.”

At this point, it’s likely that fans expect a 2025 release date (or at the earliest, late 2024). For comparison, Amazon usually takes a year off between seasons of its shows. This timeline is also likely since we know that The Boys Season 4 will premiere in 2024.

“We are so proud that our top-ranked freshman is getting a second season! Thank you to the amazing producers, cast, and crew, for bringing ‘Gen V’ to life, and our Prime Video teammates, for the incredible support and partnership. We’re thrilled we can all continue on this insane journey together in Season 2!” said Sony Pictures Television Studios president Katherine Pope.
